About Our Webinar

This professional development webinar is part of the Teaching for Outcomes series hosted by the National Academy of Dental Educators™. The series is designed to support faculty development through instructional methodologies that align with accreditation expectations, promote consistency in teaching, and strengthen student learning outcomes.

Storytelling is often misunderstood as a performance skill. In education, however, it functions as a structured teaching methodology that supports learning transfer, critical thinking, and professional judgment. When used intentionally, narrative supports how learners process complex information, apply concepts in clinical contexts, and retain material over time.

This session focuses on how educators can use storytelling responsibly, ethically, and strategically as part of their instructional practice.

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Explain storytelling as an instructional methodology rather than a presentation technique

  • Identify how narrative supports comprehension, retention, and clinical reasoning

  • Apply structured storytelling to didactic, laboratory, and clinical teaching

  • Align storytelling methods with learning objectives and assessment strategies

  • Maintain professionalism, boundaries, and documentation when using narrative in education
